News release

Following an early morning incident at a residential property in St. George's on July 31, 2020, 29-year-old Trevor Russell of St George's was taken into custody and charged with obstruction of justice and intimidation of a peace officer.

Shortly after 3:00 a.m. on July 31, Bay St. George RCMP were conducting an impaired driving investigation after attempting a traffic stop with a vehicle on White House Road; the vehicle turned into a driveway on the street. The officers suspected the driver to be impaired by alcohol and were in the midst of conducting the investigation when it was interrupted by Russell, who exited a residence, allegedly approached officers in a threatening and aggressive manner, and interfered with the investigation. Five other males joined him, acted in a similar manner and also interfered with the investigation.

Russell was taken into custody later that day without incident and appeared in court via telephone. He was remanded into custody while awaiting a bail hearing. He has since been released on a number of court ordered conditions.

The investigation is continuing and charges of obstruction of justice are being pursued for the other men involved in the incident.
