News release

On April 15, 2019, Holyrood RCMP and RCMP Traffic Services were dispatched to a single-vehicle roll-over collision on the Trans-Canada Highway near Foxtrap weight scales.

Police, fire and ambulance were called to attend the scene. While the fire truck was traveling with lights and sirens activated, a vehicle pulled out and passed the emergency vehicle.

Upon arrival to the scene of the collision, traffic was backed up on the highway and a firefighter identified the driver of the vehicle to police.

A 33-year-old woman from Bay Roberts, who did not deny the allegation, was charged under the Highway Traffic Act for failing to yield the right of way to an emergency vehicle.

RCMP NL reminds the motoring public of the requirement to yield the right of way to all emergency vehicles when lights and sirens are activated by pulling over to the right shoulder of the roadway and stopping until the vehicle has passed. Drivers are not permitted to pass emergency vehicles that are driving with lights and sirens activated.
