Vermilion RCMP - Tip from public leads to three arrests

On September 25, 2019 Vermilion RCMP received a report of suspicious activity in the vicinity of Range Road 80 and Highway 619. Police responded to the area and with the assistance of local residents were directed to a remote off road location in the area of Range Road 91 and Township Road 490. A stolen pick up truck was located and a Police Dog Service team was requested. Three people were taken into custody, and two were transported to area hospitals for treatment of dog bites. The investigation led police to a nearby oil lease site where it was discovered that the site had been broken into and extensive damages were caused during the theft of copper wire from the site.

Damages to oil lease site are currently estimated at $85000 but this estimate is expected to rise. There was no loss of production or release of any products during this incident.

A 24-year-old female, a 38-year-old male and a 46-year-old male all of Vermilion are all charged with:

  • Break and enter and commit theft over $5000
  • Theft over $5000
  • Possessing property obtained by crime over $5000
  • Mischief over $5000

The 38-year-old male is additionally charged with:

  • Breach of a recognizance X 5
  • Resist arrest

The 46-year-old male is additionally charged with:

  • Resist arrest
  • Breach of an undertaking

At the time of both males' arrests, they were both wanted on outstanding arrest warrants.

All three accused were held for a Judicial Interim Release hearing. The 24-year-old female and the 46-year-old male were released from custody. The 38-year-old male was remanded in custody. All three will next appear before the courts on October 7, 2019 at the provincial court in Vermilion.
