Following a number of complaints received from residents in the community of King's Point regarding unlawful use of All-Terrain Vehicles (ATV), Springdale RCMP conducted recent patrols in the community.
On August 19, 2019, at approximately 9:00 p.m., police observed an ATV travelling along a residential road and conducted a traffic stop.
The driver, a 21-year-old Kings Point man, was charged with operation of an unregistered vehicle and driving an ATV on the road without a driver's licence. Police seized and impounded the ATV.
On August 23, 2019, shortly after 9:00 a.m., while on patrol in the community of Kings Point, police observed an ATV travelling on the road at an extremely high rate of speed in the community of Kings Point.
A short time later, the officer located and arrested the driver, a 31-year-old man from King's Point and seized and impounded the ATV. He was released from custody after being charged under the Highway Traffic Act for driving with an expired driver licence, operation of vehicle without insurance, and operation of an unregistered vehicle. He was also charged under the Motorized Snow Vehicles and All-Terrain Vehicles Act for operating an ATV on the roadway, and operation of an ATV without reasonable consideration for others.
RCMP NL reminds the public ATV use is not permitted on highways or community maintained roadways in the province. Drivers can be charged under the Highway Traffic Act, Motorized Snow Vehicles and All-Terrain Vehicles Act or both for doing so.
