On October 9, 2019, at approximately 4:30 p.m., Twillingate RCMP were conducting patrols on Route 340, in Virgin Arm. An officer observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed in the community and obtained radar readings as high as 109 kms/hr in the residential 50 kms/hr speed zone.
The officer conducted a traffic stop and charged the driver, a 32-year-old woman of Summerford, with speeding 51 kms/hr or more over the speed limit. Her licence was suspended for seven days and her vehicle was impounded for three days.
RCMP NL reminds the public that speeding anywhere, especially in a residential area, cuts down on the driver's reaction time to a potential hazard on the roadway and increases the stopping distance of a motor vehicle.
