Stunting driver clocked at 180 km/hr on Highway 103

On October 28 at 10:36 a.m. a member of Lunenburg District RCMP was travelling eastbound on Hwy. 103 when they observed an oncoming vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed. The RADAR was activated and the speed measured at 140 km/h. The RCMP officer attempted a traffic stop. Despite emergency equipment being activated on the police vehicle, the target vehicle increased its speed to in excess of 180 km/hr.

The police officer did not pursue the vehicle, however it was located later on Hwy. 10 in Cookville. A traffic stop was initiated and the vehicle pulled over. The 19-year-old male driver from Bedford was arrested and taken to Cookville Detachment. The driver was served Summary Offence Tickets for Stunting and Driving to the left of a double solid line. The vehicle was seized and impounded under the authority of the Motor Vehicle Act.

The fine for stunting in Nova Scotia is $2,422.50. The RCMP want to remind the public that speed is one of the major causes of serious injury and fatal collisions on our roads. Road Safety is a priority for the RCMP, and drivers are reminded to make it their priority as well.
