The Police Officer of the Year luncheon was held on Monday, May 13, hosted by P.E.I. Crime Stoppers. Each year, awards are designated to recognize officers who have gone above and beyond the normal scope of their duties.
This year, Cpl. Nick Doyle of the East Prince District of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and Cpl. Jennifer Driscoll of the Summerside Police Services were chosen by their peers, members of the public and community organizations to be honoured with the distinction of Police Officer of the Year for 2019.
Cpl. Nick Doyle grew up in Fredericton, NB and joined the RCMP in 2008. From 2008 to 2010 Cpl. Doyle was a general duty officer at the East Prince RCMP Detachment. From 2010-2013, he was part of the Prince District Joint Forces Operations (JFO) Drug Unit, where he distinguished himself as a hard working and resourceful Investigator. From 2013 to 2018 Cpl. Doyle was part of the Federal Investigations Unit in Charlottetown, and in March of 2018 he was promoted back to the Prince District JFO Unit. He mentors new police officers and is known for being a true team player.
Cpl. Driscoll graduated from Atlantic Police Academy in May 1998 and joined the Summerside Police Service. She started in General Patrol, followed by a three-year position in the Major Crime Unit.
In 2010 Cpl. Driscoll took leave and worked for two years for the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service. She returned to Summerside Police in 2012 and has been the driving force behind several Community Initiatives, including the Christmas Coffee Card Promotion, Kids Shop with Cops and our Vulnerable Persons Registry.
She was promoted to Cpl. and is currently working in the Major Crime Unit.
The "Police Officer of the Year" awards honours officers who not only treat the public fairly, but insert themselves into the very fabric of Island life.
Congratulations to two very deserving recipients and thank you for the work you do in your communities each and every day. You are appreciated.
