News release

A 37-year-old Moncton man has been sentenced to six months in jail after pleading guilty to a charge stemming from an investigation into images of child sexual abuse that began in October 2016.

In February 2017, the New Brunswick RCMP's Internet Child Exploitation Unit executed a search warrant at a residence on Birchmount Drive in Moncton. Police seized several electronic devices and a man was arrested. He was released on a promise to appear in court.

In May 2017, Louis Guy Bourque was charged with possession of child pornography. He pleaded guilty on August 14, 2018.

On June 18, 2019, Bourque was sentenced in Moncton Provincial Court.

In addition to jail time, Louis Guy Bourque has been added to the National Sex Offender Registry for life, and will be required to submit a DNA sample. Following his release from jail, he will have to abide by conditions set out by the court, including not being near children.

The New Brunswick RCMP's Internet Child Exploitation Unit includes members of the Saint John and Kennebecasis Regional Police Forces. The RCMP's Digital Forensics Services in New Brunswick, the Codiac Regional RCMP and the RCMP's National Child Exploitation Centre assisted in the investigation.
