On June 12, 2019, at approximately 2:10 a.m., Corner Brook RCMP received an anonymous call of a vehicle off the road in Gillams. The caller suspected that the driver may possibly be impaired.
Police attended the scene and located the driver, a 45-year-old man from the Bay of Islands. He was found to be impaired and was arrested.
The man was provided a breath demand by police and refused to provide samples of his breath.
He was held in custody and searched before being lodged into the holding cell. Police located a white powder that is believed to be a controlled substance in his possession.
The man has since been released from custody and is facing charges of impaired driving, refusing to provide breath samples and possession of a controlled substance. He is set to attend court on August 20, 2019.
