On July 30th, 2019, RCMP officers were in the Jakes Corner area conducting a search in relation to an investigation when they heard several rapid gunshots fired nearby.
The investigation led RCMP officers to a nearby residence where two 29-year old men and a 27-year-old woman were located and questioned.
No injuries were reported, however officers located shell casings and evidence to suggest that shots had recently been fired on the property.
One of the 29-year-old men, Jonathan Baglee, was initially arrested for possession of a firearm, contrary to court-imposed conditions. The other man and woman were released. The property was then secured while officers obtained a search warrant.
The search warrant was executed at the property on July 31, 2019 and resulted in the seizure of 20 long guns, one handgun, one cross-bow, 117 grams of cocaine, cash, and a large assortment of gun parts and ammunition.
At least four of the firearms seized were prohibited. One rifle was a semi-automatic style rifle that appeared to have been modified to fully automatic capabilities.
Evidence consistent with drug trafficking activity was also seized at the property.
As a result of the investigation and search warrant, Mr. Baglee is now facing a total of 19 charges related to firearms offences and possession for the purpose of trafficking.
Mr. Baglee appeared in court on August 2, 2019 and was released on conditions.
The investigation is still in the early stages and is continuing.
