News release

Just after midnight on November 8, 2018, Whitbourne RCMP received a report of two men, from Hopeall, who were reported as being overdue from a hunting trip.

Their ATVs were located in a wooded area by the son of one of the missing men. Stormy weather was forecasted and it was reported that the men did not have the proper protective or emergency gear for the weather.

Police attended the scene via ATV with family members of the missing men, along with members of the community who had gathered to assist. The son of one of the missing men found a trail and subsequently located the two men but became displaced with them.

Police called out and could hear a distant response. Police continued to call out, providing a source of direction for the men to follow and used a flashlight to assist as the men got closer.

After approximately thirty minutes, all three men arrived safely to the search site, appeared to be in good health and did not require medical attention.

RCMP remind the public of the importance of being prepared when departing into the woods. It is advisable to always let someone know where you are going and when you expect to return. It is also important to carry food provisions and emergency equipment in case you become lost or displaced. The public should also be mindful of the shortened daylight hours when hunting or participating in other outside activities.
