Three men have been arrested in connection with counterfeit bills passed to businesses in the Moncton area.
Since January 16, 2018, the Codiac Regional RCMP has received six reports of local merchants receiving counterfeit Canadian $100 bills. On February 4, 2018, police arrested an 18-year-old man, a 20-year-old man, and a 22-year-old man in connection with the investigation. All three were released on conditions pending a court appearance on April 20, 2018.
Police are advising local merchants and the public to carefully examine $100 Canadian bills with the serial number EKR2223601, as some of the counterfeit bills may still be in circulation.
It is an offence to recirculate a counterfeit bill. If you come into contact with what you believe is counterfeit currency, report it to police. You can find more information on security features on Canadian currency that can help distinguish a legitimate bill, as well as other advice for consumers and businesses, on the Bank of Canada website.
