On September 11, 2018, RCMP and RNC police officers will partner for a joint effort to enforce speed limits and the move-over law along areas of the Trans Canada Highway.
This initiative will occur the day prior to the one-year anniversary of the death of fallen RCMP officer Cst. Francis Deschenes, who was killed while on duty helping a motorist change a flat tire on the side of a highway in New Brunswick. Cst. Deschenes, who worked in Newfoundland and Labrador for a short time in 2017, was heavily involved in the implementation of the move over law in New Brunswick, which is now referred to as "Frank's Law".
Members of the media are invited to Exit 40, Cochrane Pond on the Trans Canada Highway, on Tuesday, September 11, at 1:30 p.m. RCMP Cpl. Jolene Garland and RNC Cst. Geoff Higdon will be in attendance and available on scene for media interviews.
Media representatives are asked to indicate their attendance in advance by emailing rcmp.nl.media-medias.tnl.grc@rcmp-grc.gc.ca
