Yellowknife RCMP are investigating an incident involving the discharging of bear spray inside a downtown apartment building.
At approximately 11:55 am on Sunday, May 6th, 2018, RCMP received a complaint of people damaging a window at an apartment building on 52nd Street. Officers arrived immediately and located an empty can of bear spray in front of the building.
Officers opened a side entrance and discovered the spray had been discharged in the ground floor hallway. Several residents came into contact with bear spray fumes and evacuated the building. The City of Yellowknife Fire Division were called to assist in ventilating the building.
RCMP arrested an adult male and two adult females. One of the females involved, Brittany Ann Beaulieu, 32, has been charged with:
- Assault With Weapon – CC 267(a)
- Mischief equal to or under $5,000
- Damage to, or Obstruct enjoyment of property – CC 430(4)
- Uttering Threats to Property – CC 264.1(1)
- Common Nuisance – endanger the comfort of the public – CC 180(1)
The 2 other involved individuals were released. The incident is still under investigation.
