On December 11, 2018, around 9:15 a.m., Whitbourne RCMP received a call from the Newfoundland and Labrador Youth Centre (NLYC) informing one of their employees was assaulted by an inmate who used a broken pen as a weapon.
The youth was restrained and placed in a cell. The employee was immediately brought to the clinic in Whitbourne and received treatment for his injuries.
Whitbourne and Placentia RCMP attended the NLYC, conducted an investigation and ensured the youth was no longer in possession of a weapon.
The youth was moved to a secure unit and will face charges including: Assault Causing Bodily Harm, Assault with a Weapon, Uttering Threats and Breach of a Youth Criminal Justice Act Probation.
