Alberta RCMP Officer faces criminal charges

On April 12, 2018 RCMP Constable Dwayne Kirby of Airdrie Detachment was arrested and charged with the following:

  • One Count of Assault Causing Bodily Harm under Section 267(b) of the Criminal Code

Cst. Kirby will make his first court appearance in Airdrie on May 17, 2018.

The charge is the result of an RCMP investigation into an incident that occurred August 19, 2017. It is alleged that Cst. Kirby assaulted a prisoner.

Cst. Kirby has been suspended from duty since August 2017 as a result of an internal Code of Conduct process. Cst. Kirby's duty status will be reviewed regularly until this conduct matter is completed. His suspension is standard RCMP practice and not a disciplinary measure.

No other information will be provided at this time as this matter is before the courts.
