I know you've all been working extremely hard the last few months to keep each other and our communities safe, and I'm so proud of how well we've continued to adapt to the ever-changing COVID-19 situation.
As the summer months continue, I'd like to encourage all employees to take some vacation leave this summer to rest and recharge. Time away from work is so important for your health and wellbeing.
While I recognize that not all parts of our daily lives have returned to normal, all employees should continue to use their vacation leave credits in the year they are earned, as usual. Managers are encouraged to have regular discussions with their employees to determine their preferences, and schedule their vacation time. Emphasis should be placed on taking vacation leave this summer, as permitted by operational requirements.
Please note that "Other Leave with Pay" (code 699) is not to be used to replace vacation leave. The delegation to approve "Other Leave with Pay" (code 699) has been extended and we are awaiting further details on this from the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat before school starts in September.
Managers: To determine how an employee's vacation leave should be scheduled, please consult the relevant collective agreement, or applicable terms and conditions of employment. You are also encouraged to contact the applicable labour relations section should you need additional support.
As more restrictions are lifted across the country, we must still be mindful of our actions and the measures that have been put in place for our safety. COVID-19 is still here, and we cannot ignore the levels of risk when out in the community. All employees should continue to adhere to public health guidance – both at work and during your time off – to help minimize the risk of exposure, and limit the spread of COVID-19.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation. Stay safe!
