Self-Assessment: Impaired Driving
Self-Assessment: Impaired Driving
How much do you actually know about impaired driving?
1. "Impaired driving" means:
Driving while under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol.
Driving while under the influence of alcohol only.
Driving while high on drugs only.
2. If someone is caught driving while impaired, what could happen?
They could get arrested.
They could get a warning.
Nothing as long as they're close to home.
3. If you spot an impaired driver, you should:
Call the police and notify them.
Honk your horn at them and try to get them to pull over.
Post a picture of the vehicle on your social media account and rant about it.
4. You're leaving a friend's party and find out that your ride has had some alcohol. What should you do?
Suggest an alternative, like calling a cab or one of your parents.
Set aside your worries and get in the car with them. They've only had a couple of drinks anyway!
Hop in the car without thinking twice. It's only a short drive home!
5. What should you do when people offer you alcoholic drinks, even though they know you're going to be driving?
Politely and calmly tell them no, and leave it at that.
Limit yourself to one drink early in the evening.
Allow yourself to only have a few drinks.
6. Some medication can impair your driving.
True.
False.
It's irrelevant; you have to take it whether you need to drive somewhere or not.
7. You're at a family gathering and your older brother, who has had quite a few drinks in the past 2 hours, insists on driving home. He says it's not a big deal because he just lives a few streets over. What should you do?
Suggest that he sleeps over at the house he's currently at.
Insist that he let another family member who hasn't had as much to drink drive him home.
Trust his judgment and let him drive, but only after he drinks a coffee.
8. Do you think that driving while fatigued is a form of impaired driving?
Yes, because it slows down your reaction time.
Maybe. It could be dangerous but it's not considered a form of impaired driving.
No. People always drive home late at night, and driving while tired is normal.
9. Some provinces have laws regarding the Blood Alcohol Content level that young drivers can have while on the road.
True.
False.
I'm not sure.
