Earlier today, Manitoba RCMP members and employees as well as special guests from across the province officially welcomed Assistant Commissioner Jane MacLatchy as their new Commanding Officer, in a ceremony held at the Manitoba Legislative Building in Winnipeg.

The formal change of command ceremony involved RCMP Pipes and Drums, a ceremonial troop, and a flag party. The handover of command of the Manitoba RCMP was symbolized with a parchment signing and the transfer of the Divisional ensign from outgoing Commanding Officer, Assistant Commissioner Scott Kolody to the new Commanding Officer, Assistant Commissioner Jane MacLatchy. RCMP Commissioner Brenda Lucki oversaw the ceremony.

"Assistant Commissioner MacLatchy is an incredible and innovative leader who cares deeply about improving the safety and security of communities across Manitoba," said Brenda Lucki, Commissioner of the RCMP. "She will no doubt build on the great work of retired Assistant Commissioner Scott Kolody, advancing critical initiatives such as reconciliation with Indigenous communities and enhancing community partnerships as well as bringing a new policing vision to the province."

"I am proud and honoured to have this opportunity to lead the outstanding employees of the Manitoba RCMP who dedicate themselves, day-in and day-out, to the betterment of this beautiful province," said A/Commr. Jane MacLatchy. "As the new Commanding Officer, I look forward to travelling across Manitoba to meet and connect with the people in the communities we police. It is only by listening and working together that we will be able to improve our service to all Manitobans."

The Role of Divisional Commanding Officer:

The title of Commanding Officer is reserved specifically for the regular member in charge of an RCMP division. The individual's rank does not necessarily reflect their status as Commanding Officer – the RCMP has Commanding Officers who are Deputy Commissioners, Assistant Commissioners and Chief Superintendents. The Commanding Officer's rank is determined by the individual's level of responsibility, the territory covered by the division and the number of employees under their command.
