Through his 32-year career with the Force Assistant Commissioner Robinson has served across Canada, from the Yukon to Halifax, Nova Scotia in various units and is currently serving in his home province of Manitoba as Commanding Officer of “D” Division.
Assistant Commissioner Robinson joined the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in January 1979 at Regina. His early service was spent in various uniform, plain clothes and traffic duties in central and northern Alberta, followed by a transfer in 1987 to the Yukon where he served in plain clothes and uniform capacities. Assistant Commissioner Robinson returned to Alberta in 1991 where he was promoted to Corporal in the Major Crime Unit in Edmonton. He served there until 1996 when he was promoted to Sergeant and transferred to Red Deer City Detachment as Watch Commander.
In 1997 he received his Commission and transferred to "H" Division as the Officer in Charge of Contract Policing and later the acting Criminal Operations Officer where he was responsible for nearly 500 employees. He was appointed the Officer in Charge of Criminal Operations for “L” Division in July 2001, and promoted to Chief Superintendent in 2003 where he served as Officer in Charge of Criminal Operations at RCMP “D” Division from 2003 to 2006.
In 2006 Assistant Commissioner Robinson was promoted to his current rank and began two years as National Project Leader for the Client Service Enhancement Project (CSEP), a national initiative that aims to examine new service delivery strategies consistent with the RCMP’s mission of policing in Canada. Assistant Commissioner Robinson led an integrated team of divisional, regional and national staff as well as worked with stakeholders including contract partners (provinces, territories, municipalities, and First Nations) and groups such as the Contract Advisory Committee and Public Safety Canada in his role in this national project. Currently the Aboriginal Community Constable Program, the Community Program Officer role and the Community Safety Officer model are being field-tested across Canada.
Assistant Commissioner Robinson holds a Master’s Degree in Work Organizations and Leadership from Athabasca University, a Bachelor’s Degree from (BCOU) Thompson Rivers University and a Certificate in Criminal Justice from the University of Virginia. Additionally, Assistant Commissioner Robinson is a graduate of the 204th session of the F.B.I. National Academy in Quantico, Virginia and the Queen’s University Executive Program.
Assistant Commissioner Robinson is a member of the Order of Merit of Police Forces, a recipient of the Governor General’s Medal of Bravery, the Lieutenant Governor’s Award of Merit (Alberta), the RCMP Commissioner's Commendation for Bravery, the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal and the Commanding Officer's Commendation.
