RCMP National Memorial Service

The RCMP Memorial Service is held on the second Sunday in September at the RCMP Academy, “Depot” Division, in Regina. The ceremony begins with a parade at 8:45 a.m. and is followed by a chapel service at 10 a.m. and a short ceremony at the Memorial Wall in the RCMP cemetery.

Several troops of regular members, auxiliary members, cadets and veterans will parade on Sleigh Square in honour of the RCMP members who have died in the line of duty since the first fallen member in 1876.

The RCMP Memorial Service is an annual event and an enduring tradition that started in the mid-1930s when RCMP members came to Sleigh Square to honour their fallen comrades.

Sadly, two names will be added to the Cenotaph, Honour Roll and Memorial Wall this year:

# Reg # Name Served Description
235 19758 Cpl. George Ronald Hawkins January 4, 1957 – June 6, 1968 Died as a result of encephalitis directly related to a tick bite he suffered while on duty, tracking a suspect in the Turtle Mountains of South West Manitoba.
236 57912 Cst. David Matthew Wynn July 20, 2009 – January 21, 2015 Died from a gunshot would sustained while attempting to apprehend a suspect in a stolen vehicle investigation on January 21, 2015 in St. Albert, Alberta.

The RCMP Commissioner will be in attendance as well as senior members of the RCMP and members of the fallen officers' families.

The media are welcome to attend.
