East Prince RCMP arrest two impaired drivers over Halloween weekend

The East Prince RCMP was busy responding to a variety of calls for service throughout the Halloween weekend, and arrested two impaired drivers in the communities of New London and Augustine Cove, PEI.

On October 29, 2021, at approximately 8:20 p.m., members of the East Prince RCMP responded to a report of a possible impaired driver on Route 20 near New London. The driver, a 62-year-old woman from Spring Valley, showed signs of impairment and was arrested. She was transported to the East Prince detachment for further testing, which confirmed her alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit. She was later released and is scheduled to appear in Summerside Provincial Court in December. She had her vehicle impounded at her expense and is prohibited from driving for 90 days.

On October 31, at approximately 9:20 p.m., police responded to a report of a single-vehicle crash on Route 10 in Augustine Cove. The driver of the vehicle, a 53-year-old man from Summerside, showed signs of impairment and was arrested. He was transported to the East Prince detachment for further testing which confirmed his alcohol level exceeded the legal limit. He had his vehicle impounded at his expense and is prohibited from driving for 90 days. The man was later transported to hospital for minor injuries and is scheduled to appear in Summerside Provincial Court in December.

The RCMP wish to remind the public of the dangers related to impaired driving, and are urging motorists to always drive sober, wear their seatbelt and obey the speed limit. If you suspect or are aware of an impaired driver, please call 9-1-1 immediately in a safe manner. Providing as much information as possible regarding the vehicle, driver, location, and direction of travel can help police get impaired drivers off the road.
