Cornwall, Prince Edward Island

News release

On Thursday, February 18th, at approximately 4:30 pm, Queens district RCMP were on routine patrol in the Cornwall area. Police initiated a traffic stop with a 53 year-old Clyde River man who showed signs of alcohol consumption.

Police administered a roadside screen device which the man failed. He was subsequently arrested for impaired driving and brought back to the Maypoint RCMP office where samples of his breath showed that he was over by nearly three times the legal limit. He will appear in court in March to answer to the charges. In addition to impaired driving charges, the man's vehicle was seized for 30 days.

The RCMP wishes to remind the motoring public that impaired driving continues to be an issue on island roads and that it can be prevented by calling a cab, calling a friend or simply staying put.
