Man safely apprehended under the Mental Health Act

On March 21st, 2020 at 8:55 pm the Whitehorse RCMP were dispatched to check on the well-being of a 37-year old man at a residence located on Range Road in Whitehorse, YT. Officers from the Whitehorse RCMP and KDFN Community Safety Office immediately attended.

After a brief interaction with the officers, the man uttered threats to self-harm and barricaded himself in the residence. The Yukon RCMP's Critical Incident Command Team was deployed as the situation continued to unfold. The health of the male, as was the safety of the general public, were the primary concerns for police involvement.

At approximately 10 pm, the matter was negotiated peacefully and the man surrendered to police without further incident. He was apprehended pursuant to the Mental Health Act pending a mental health assessment by a physician. No one was injured during the incident and no charges are pending at this time.
