RCMP and Coroner investigating fatal boating incident in Tagish

Just after midnight on Sunday, July 28th, 2019, Carcross RCMP received a report of a boating incident from a man on board a boat at an unknown location near Carcross, Yukon.

Following patrols by water and air, the boat was spotted near the Tagish River Bridge.

Upon arrival at the scene, RCMP officers located a 50-year-old deceased man, a 26-year-old deceased woman, as well as the caller, an injured 28-year-old man.

The man was taken via helicopter to Whitehorse General Hospital to be treated for his injuries.

Investigators have determined that the boat hit the Tagish River Bridge. The boat sustained significant damage and was seized by Carcross RCMP for the purpose of the police investigation.

The cause of the collision has not yet been determined, however visibility, conditions and impairment are believed to have been factors in this incident.

The investigation is ongoing.
