On May 4, 2023, officers from Waskesiu and Montreal Lake RCMP have located and arrested an individual involved in the homicide of Keith Stewart.
As a result of this investigation, a youth female under the age of 16 from Montreal Lake Cree Nation is currently charged with one count, Second Degree Murder, contrary to Sec. 235(1) of the Criminal Code. The female youth is scheduled to make her next court appearance on May 12, 2023. The youth cannot be identified in accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes investigate suspicious death in Montreal Lake Cree Nation

On Tuesday, May 2, 2023, at approximately 12:40 a.m., the Saskatchewan RCMP Operational Communications Centre received the report of a male who required medical assistance at Montreal Lake Cree Nation.
Montreal Lake RCMP responded immediately and located the male on a road in Montreal Lake Cree Nation, receiving medical assistance. He was pronounced deceased on scene by EMS.
Preliminary information indicates the circumstances of the individual's death are suspicious. As a result, Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes have taken carriage of the ongoing investigation.
With the assistance of the Saskatchewan Coroners Service, the victim has been identified as 50-year-old Keith Stewart. His family has been notified and Victim Services has been engaged to provide support.
There will be an increased police presence for an undetermined amount of time to investigate the incident. Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes appreciate the cooperation and patience from residents in the community as police continue to conduct a thorough investigation.
