National Youth Advisory Committee

This year's committee

The 2022–23 NYAC will include a diverse group of 125 youth ages 13 to 21. We're grateful to have individuals from every province and territory share their unique perspectives with the RCMP!

This year, committee members are sharing their thoughts on topics such as:

  • reconciliation
  • bullying and cyberbullying
  • online safety
  • transportation safety and impaired driving
  • cannabis and substance use
  • mental health
  • healthy relationships and sexual consent
  • gender and sexual diversity

NYAC members are helping the RCMP better understand, support and connect with youth by talking about the ways they want to be engaged. They're getting tools for community engagement, hearing about volunteer opportunities, and talking with experts and RCMP members.

The RCMP National Youth Advisory Committee (NYAC) helps shape how the RCMP supports young persons. It brings together up to 125 youth between the ages of 13 and 21 from all over Canada to discuss important issues that they face in their respective communities. The NYAC provides valuable input to RCMP policies, programs and strategies.

How it works

The NYAC is composed of young Canadian residents (ages 13 to 21) from a variety of cultures and backgrounds. Members meet on a moderated, private online forum to discuss youth trends, RCMP programs, as well as youth crime and victimization issues.

This commitment requires approximately two to four online hours per month, from October to June.

Why youth should get involved

  • Help shape RCMP youth strategies and programs
  • Interact with youth from across Canada, exchange views and develop critical thinking skills
  • Hear from RCMP officers and experts
  • Access opportunities to get involved with local groups and organizations
  • Obtain a reference letter and 20 community service hours

Being a member of NYAC has been a very meaningful opportunity. It gave me the chance to aid youth who believe they have no support system at all by spreading awareness and discussing solutions to issues that concern them.

The NYAC was an amazing experience because I truly felt that my voice and the voices of young people my age mattered. It's proof that our opinions can make a real difference in our communities across the country!

I had the privilege of being part of the NYAC, a group of energetic, enthusiastic, and mature group of youth, and young adults from across the country. As a member of this group, I was able to contribute, and learn a lot about issues, laws, and policies that affect youth and YA in Canada.

I would highly recommend anyone to apply to be a part of this group, as it is also an amazing opportunity to grow as an individual as well.

Participating in the NYAC has made me even more proud to be Canadian by giving me the opportunity to connect with youth from all over Canada. I also learned and shared about issues that are important to my generation, my province and my country through the RCMP Committee and other members who shared their stories.
