National Youth Advisory Committee

This year's committee

The 2021–22 NYAC is a diverse group of 125 youth ages 13 to 21. We're grateful to have individuals from every province and territory share their unique perspectives with the RCMP!

This year, committee members are sharing their thoughts on topics such as:

  • Bullying and cyberbullying
  • Online safety
  • Transportation safety and impaired driving
  • Cannabis and substance use
  • Mental health
  • Healthy relationships and sexual consent
  • Gender and sexual diversity
  • Reconciliation

NYAC members are helping the RCMP better understand, support and connect with youth by talking about the ways they want to be engaged. They're getting tools for community engagement, hearing about volunteer opportunities, and talking with experts and RCMP members.

The RCMP National Youth Advisory Committee (NYAC) helps shape how the RCMP supports young persons. It brings together up to 125 youth between the ages of 13 and 21 from all over Canada to discuss important issues that they face in their respective communities. The NYAC provides valuable input to RCMP policies, programs and strategies.

How it works

The NYAC is composed of young Canadian residents (ages 13 to 21) from a variety of cultures and backgrounds. Members meet on a moderated, private online forum to discuss youth trends, RCMP programs, as well as youth crime and victimization issues.

This commitment requires approximately two to four online hours per month, from October to June.

Why youth should get involved

  • Help shape RCMP youth strategies and programs
  • Interact with youth from across Canada, exchange views and develop critical thinking skills
  • Hear from RCMP officers and experts
  • Access opportunities to get involved with local groups and organizations
  • Obtain a reference letter and 20 community service hours

The NYAC has been one of the most rewarding opportunities I have had. I get the chance to discuss issues youth face across the country and help create ideas that will have a positive impact.

Being a member of the RCMP NYAC gave me a clear resolution that youth can also do great things despite being young. The NYAC proves that.
