About the RCMP in National Division

The RCMP National Division's mandate differs from other areas of the RCMP. Although located in Ottawa, it has no defined geographical jurisdiction.

The RCMP in the National Capital Region enforces traffic on federal routes. We also protect certain properties and conducts patrols. We liaise with partners to ensure the safety and security of those who take part in protests and demonstrations.

We protect Canadian dignitaries such as the Prime Minister, the Governor General and as well as foreign dignitaries when they are in Canada. We also provide protective services to embassies, consulates and other designated locations in the National Capital Region.

We investigate sensitive, high profile cases that threaten Canada's political, economic and social integrity. For example, cybercrime, domestic and international corruption, war crimes and crimes against humanity.
