RCMP Black Engagement Steering Committee Newfoundland and Labrador

In 2020, we established the RCMP Black Engagement Steering Committee Newfoundland and Labrador (RBESCoNL) in partnership with representatives of the Black community. The committee set three main areas to focus on:

  • Recruitment of members of the Black community into the RCMP as police officers and public service employees
  • Training for police officers on the history of the Black community in Newfoundland and Labrador and Canada
  • Increased relationships between the RCMP and the Black community

The committee, which is co-chaired by the RCMP NL Assistant Commissioner and a representative of the Black community, meets once a month. Committee members provide:

  • Perspectives on the Black community's interactions with police
  • Knowledge of the values, culture, traditions, customs and practices of their community
  • Guidance on decisions by RCMP NL which may affect the Black community

For more information, contact RBESCoNL at RBESCoNL-CoDGCCNTNL@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
