Suspect in Iqaluit Post Office Break and Enter identified

On November 25, 2024, the Nunavut RCMP published a news release asking for the public's assistance in identifying a suspect who had broken into the Iqaluit Post Office on October 5, 2024. The Iqaluit RCMP received a number of tips from the public and a suspect was identified.

The Iqaluit RCMP identified the suspect as 39-year-old Akavak Mangitak, and learned he was currently in custody at the Aaqqigiarvik Correctional Healing Facility (ACHF) on non-related matters. On November 26, 2024, Mangitak was served an Appearance Noticed and his first court appearance is scheduled for December 19, 2024 in Iqaluit, Nunavut. He is charged with:
• Break and Enter, Section 348(1)(b) C.C
• Theft of Mail, Section 356(1)(a) C.C
