Queens County PEI, Prince Edward Island

News release

Yesterday, RCMP officers in Prince Edward Island stopped two impaired drivers during routine patrols.

First Incident

At 8:55 a.m., RCMP Traffic Services stopped a vehicle in Dunstaffnage for displaying an expired inspection sticker. Upon further investigation, officers determined that the 47-year-old driver was impaired by alcohol and prohibited from driving nationwide. The individual's vehicle was towed, and he will appear in court at a later date.

Second Incident

Later in the day, at 3:18 p.m., Queens District RCMP stopped a side-by-side ATV operating on a roadway in Clyde River. The 66-year-old operator refused to comply with a breath demand, an offence that carries penalties similar to those for impaired driving. He is also scheduled to appear in court at a future date.

"Impaired driving remains one of the leading contributors to fatal collisions in PEI," said Corporal Gavin Moore, RCMP Media Relations Officer. "If you suspect someone is driving while impaired, please call 911."
