In the course of executing a search warrant at a residence in Stratford, PEI recently, members of the PEI RCMP Provincial General Investigative Section seized an envelope containing approximately 50 tablets. These tablets were sent to Health Canada for analysis.
Health Canada identified the tablets as N-desethyl Isotonitazene / A-benzimidazole, a synthetic opioid said to be more potent than fentanyl. The tablets were white and triangular in shape, and scored with "Pd" on one side and "33 " on the other.
Although N-desethyl Isotonitazene was reported in Nova Scotia earlier this year, this is the first reported instance of the drug in Prince Edward Island.
The use of Naloxone may help reverse the effects of the drug, although repeated administration of Naloxone may be required to counter the overdose effect. PEI RCMP want the public to be aware of this substance, and that possession of this substance in PEI is an offence.
