An 18-year-old man is facing multiple charges after he failed to stop for RCMP Traffic Services East at an attempted traffic stop in Dildo on December 29, 2022.
At approximately 10:00 p.m., officers attempted to stop a vehicle in Dildo. The vehicle's lights were then turned off and it fled from police at a high rate of speed in a residential area. In the interest of public safety, police did not pursue the vehicle.
Officers in the area conducted extensive patrols and located the driver and the vehicle a short time later. The man, who showed signs of drug impairment, tested positive for cannabis on roadside drug screening equipment and was arrested for drug impaired driving. He was transported to the detachment in Whitbourne and completed a drug influence evaluation. His licence was suspended and the vehicle was seized and impounded. The man was released from custody and faces charges of flight from police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and drug impaired driving. He is set to appear in court at a later date.
The investigation is continuing.
