Update - Thompson Rural RCMP investigating aggravated assault

On February 28, 2023, the 45-year-old male victim succumbed to his injuries.

On March 2, 2023, Darwin Beardy, 42, was re-arrested and charged with Manslaughter. He was remanded into custody for a court appearance scheduled March 17, 2023, in Thompson.

On February 25, 2023, at approximately 10:40 am, Thompson Rural RCMP received a report of an assault that took place at a housing complex in Tataskweyak Cree Nation (Split Lake).

Officers attended to the community and learned that the assault had actually taken place at approximately 5:30 am on February 24, 2023, when the 45-year-old male victim was involved in an altercation with a 42-year-old male.

The victim, from Tataskweyak Cree Nation, returned to his room where he was later found on the morning of February 25, 2023, requiring medical assistance. He was taken to the nursing station and later transported to Winnipeg via medevac with life-threatening injuries where he remains in critical condition.

Darwin Beardy, 42, of Tataskweyak Cree Nation, was arrested on February 25 and remanded into custody on a charge of Aggravated Assault.

Thompson Rural RCMP, along with Major Crime Services and RCMP Forensic Identification Services, continue to investigate.
