On April 29, 2023, after a several month-long investigation, St. Paul and Saddle Lake RCMP with the assistance of the Alberta RCMP Emergency Response Team, Police Dog Services and the Eastern Alberta Crime Reduction Unit executed a search warrant on a residence in the Saddle Lake First Nation.
As a result of the search, RCMP located:
- 65.9 grams of suspected fentanyl
- 357 grams of suspected methamphetamine
- 97.7 grams of suspected cocaine
- Two loaded handguns
- Two rifles
A 39-year-old individual, a resident of Saddle Lake First Nation, who also had 12 warrants for his arrest has been additionally charged with 27 Criminal Code offences.
The individual was taken before a justice of the peace and has been remanded into custody to appear on May 4, 2023, at the St. Paul Court of Justice
"RCMP members continue to work very diligently to take illegal drugs and firearms off our streets. This seizure will have a major impact in the local drug trafficking and organized crime within our communities," said Cpl. Stephen Cunningham, with the St. Paul RCMP.
