On March 1, 2023, at approximately 3:30 am, South Indian Lake RCMP responded to a report of an unresponsive female who was being brought to the nursing station.
Officers attended the nursing station where the female was pronounced deceased.
The investigation has determined that on the afternoon of February 28, a 28-year-old female and 31-year-old male departed the community on snowmobile heading towards a cabin. Approximately 16 km away from the community, the snowmobile became stuck. The female stayed with the snowmobile and the male walked for several hours back to the community. The male reached the community and went to a residence for assistance. At approximately 1:30 am, the male, along with a second adult male, headed out on snowmobile to go assist the female.
All three adults returned to a residence in the community at approximately 3:00 am. When they arrived at the residence, the males noted the female had become unresponsive. They called for assistance and the female was transported to the nursing station. It appears she was outside in the elements for approximately 12 hours.
An autopsy will be conducted and South Indian Lake RCMP continue to investigate.
