Snowmobiler goes through the ice near Perry’s Cove, body recovered

A man who went through the ice on a snowmobile near Perry's Cove yesterday was located deceased. His body was recovered from Middle Pond last night.

At approximately 5:30 p.m., Harbour Grace RCMP received the report of an overdue snowmobiler. A short time later, police received a report of a hole in the ice in Middle Pond with suspicions that someone may have gone through.

Supporting resources, including firefighters from Salmon Cove/Perry's Cove, Harbour Grace and Victoria Fire Departments, the Harbour Grace Cold-Water Rescue Team and the Avalon North Wolverines Search and Rescue team, attended the scene. A short time later, the man's body was recovered from the water.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is engaged and the investigation is continuing.
