Ross River, Yukon

News release

Ross River RCMP, in collaboration with other police teams, supporting agencies and the community, continue efforts to locate missing person Ramona Peter. Ramona was reported missing on April 28, 2023, after having been last seen in Ross River on April 21, 2023.

In addition to officers from Ross River RCMP, the Yukon RCMP Major Crimes Unit had officers in the community to support the investigation and follow up on information provided by witnesses. The RCMP Air Services is also actively engaged and the Yukon RCMP plane was used in a search on May 4.

Yukon RCMP Police Dog Service (PDS) and Yukon Search and Rescue (YSAR) are involved in the investigation and are present in Ross River today. They will continue to work with community partners engaged in physical searches in and around the community. Today, a charter helicopter is assisting YSAR in searching the area.

Police continue to appreciate active engagement from the community in this investigation. Anyone who participates in a search is encouraged to continue to share plans and findings with the RCMP. This is to ensure that investigators have a full understanding of search activity, as well as to prevent searchers from engaging in dangerous or repeated actions.

On May 3, 2023, Whitehorse RCMP reported that a missing Whitehorse woman had been located and was safe. This update was related to a different person and the two missing investigations are not believed to have any ties or associations.

The following resources are available through the Yukon government:

Staff members with FILU and Victim Services are available to provide support to family and community members impacted by Ramona's disappearance and the associated investigation.
