RCMP Traffic Services West conducted multiple checkpoints over the May long weekend during Canada Road Safety Week partnering in with Highway Enforcement Officers, the RNC and RCMP officers from Corner Brook and Rocky Harbour Detachments.
On Friday, May 19, RCMP Traffic Services West, Corner Brook RNC and Highway Enforcement Officers with Service NL conducted a checkpoint on Riverside Drive in Corner Brook. Approximately 215 motorists were checked. A passenger vehicle was removed from the roadway due to being unroadworthy and seven light commercial vehicles were issued warnings for various infractions under the Licensing and Equipment Regulations.
Later in the day, RCMP Traffic Services West conducted a checkpoint in Pasadena, checking approximately 150 vehicles, three of which were off-road vehicles. One motorist was ticketed for having open cannabis readily available.
On Saturday, a checkpoint RCMP Traffic Services West and Corner Brook RCMP conducted a checkpoint in Benoit's Cove. Approximately 150 vehicles were checked with no violations found.
On Monday, Traffic Services West and Rocky Harbour Detachment conducted a checkpoint on Route 430 near Rocky Harbour checking approximately 350 vehicles. Two drivers were ticketed for operating a vehicle with an expired licence and a commercial vehicle driver was ticketed for not having the required log book.
