RCMP Traffic Services Central recently seized a number of vehicles for breaches of criminal legislation and for various offences of the Highway Traffic Act.
On January 24, 2023, officers seized three vehicles. The first involved a report of a man who was operating a vehicle without insurance or registration. The described vehicle was located while parked at the court house in Gander. The driver, who was seated in the truck, was without insurance or registration. Later in the day, officers patrolled along the Botwood Highway. A traffic stop was conducted on a car having no insurance or registration and the male driver was driving while suspended. Following this traffic stop, a woman possessing a beginner's permit, and having no appropriate accompanying driver as is required, was stopped for having no registration or insurance. All drivers were ticketed under the Highway Traffic Act for the appropriate violations.
On the afternoon of January 23, a vehicle was stopped in Carmanville for having expired registration. In addition, the male driver was operating without insurance. He was ticketed under the Highway Traffic Act. Later that afternoon, also in Carmanville, police received a report of a suspected impaired driver. The described vehicle was located and a traffic stop was conducted. The driver, a 47-year-old man, failed a roadside breath test and was arrested for impaired driving. At the detachment, he provided breath samples that were nearly twice the legal limit. His licence was suspended. Later that evening, while on patrol in George's Point, 'police stopped a vehicle and found that the driver, a 37-year-old man, was driving while prohibited and was arrested. These two drivers were released from police custody and are set to attend court at later dates to face criminal charges. All three vehicles were seized.
