June 4, 2023, Springfield… Prince District RCMP is investigating a three vehicle collision that occurred on Route 2 in in Springfield PEI.
On Friday June 2nd, at approximately 7:20 p.m., RCMP, EMS, Kensington Fire Department and the Department of Transportation all responded to a report of a three-vehicle collision on Route 2 in Springfield near Route 8 the Rattenbury Road. The preliminary investigation appears to show a car crossed the centerline and struck an oncoming minivan. A third vehicle went into the ditch and avoided the other vehicles. An 80-year-old man was pronounced deceased at the scene and his female passenger is in hospital with serious injuries. The male driver of the second vehicle was sent to Halifax with life threatening injuries and no one was seriously injured in the third vehicle that went into the ditch to avoid the collision.
The road was closed for three hours as police investigated the scene. A traffic reconstructionist attended the scene, drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor and the investigation is ongoing.
