At approximately 12:30 a.m., Pierceland RCMP received the report of a shot fired from a vehicle travelling south on an access road on Big Island Cree Territory. Initial investigation determined the source of the gunshot came from a pick-up truck with very bright headlights reported to have been tailgating the vehicle.

The vehicle is described as a silver 2010 GMC pick-up truck with a crew cab, and a license plate ending with "WK". The provincial issuer of the license plate is unknown at this time.

Pierceland RCMP responded immediately and made patrols around the community for the suspect pick-up truck. Officers initiated a pursuit as the pick-up truck travelled west on Highway 55 toward the Alberta border. During the course of the pursuit, occupants of the vehicle were throwing items out of the window at the police vehicle. Officers continued to assess the safety of this pursuit and terminated it a short time later to reduce the risk to of impacting the safety of other motorists. Pierceland RCMP immediately notified the Alberta RCMP of the incident and requested assistance in locating the pick-up truck.

The truck is believed to be occupied by four adult females who may be armed with firearms. If the pick-up truck is seen, do not approach or contact the occupants. Report the sighting or information pertaining to possible locations of the pick-up truck to police immediately by calling 310-RCMP or your local police service.

Pierceland RCMP are conducting proactive patrols in the area, obtaining witness statements, and following-up on information provided to police to help locate the vehicle and the suspects involved.

The investigation is ongoing.
