Lunenburg District RCMP charge man with persons and firearms offences

Lunenburg District RCMP has charged a man with persons and firearms offences after an incident on Lower Grant Rd. in Chester Basin.

On March 19, 2023, at approximately 4:15 p.m., Lunenburg District RCMP responded to a report of an altercation involving a firearm on Lower Grant Rd. in Chester Basin. RCMP officers learned that a 60-year-old man had threatened and pointed a firearm at a 13-year-old during an argument they were having. A 41-year-old man then arrived at the home and the 60-year-old man initiated a physical confrontation with him. The 60-year-old man then ran out of the house with the firearm and returned a few minutes later empty handed.

RCMP officers safely arrested the 60-year-old man and he was transported to the Bridgewater Rural Detachment. RCMP Police Dog Services were called to assist and located the firearm used in the incident in a wooded are nearby.

Gregory Charles Winter, 60, of Chester Basin, has been charged with:

  • Assault with a Weapon;
  • Pointing a Firearm;
  • Assault;
  • Uttering Threats;
  • Careless Use of a Firearm;
  • Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose;
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm;
  • Possession of a Firearm While Knowing Possession is Unauthorized;
  • Use of a Firearm in the Commission of an Offence

Winter was held in custody and released by Bridgewater Provincial Court on March 22, scheduled to appear April 19.
