Leduc RCMP Crime Reduction Unit lay charges in mail theft investigation

Leduc RCMP Crime Reduction Unit (LCRU) have charged two people following investigation into theft from mail boxes in Leduc.

On Nov. 24, 2022, LCRU identified two people using video surveillance image captures in relation to break-ins to mail boxes that occurred between Nov. 21, 2022 and Nov. 23, 2022.

LCRU with the assistance of the Leduc Drug Unit and General Duty members, executed a search warrant at a residence in Leduc. As a result, a large quantity of stolen mail and a stolen wallet were recovered. Police also seized break and enter tools and a small quantity of fentanyl.

A 41-year-old individual, a resident of Leduc, was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Break and enter to commit theft (X2)
  • Mischief (x2)
  • Theft from mail under $5,000. (x2)
  • Possession of break-in instruments
  • Fail to comply with release order condition
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.
  • Possession of a controlled substance – fentanyl

Following a judicial hearing, the 41-year-old individual was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in Leduc provincial court on Dec. 15, 2022.

LCRU have also charged a 38-year-old individual, a resident of Leduc, with the following:

  • Break and enter to commit theft
  • Theft from mail under $5,000
  • Mischief under $5,000

Leduc RCMP's efforts to locate the 38-year-old individual have been unsuccessful, and they have obtained a warrant for their arrest for the above noted charges.

The 38-year-old individual is described as:

  • 5 feet 1 inch tall
  • 119 pounds
  • Green eyes
  • Black hair
