Kings District RCMP investigating serious collision

Kings District RCMP is investigating a serious collision that occurred on Hwy. 101 in Avonport.

On April 1, 2023, at approximately 5:15 p.m., Kings District RCMP, fire and EHS responded to a report of a two-vehicle collision on Hwy. 101 in Avonport. RCMP officers learned that a blue Mazda CX-5 was travelling east on Hwy. 101 when the driver lost control, crossed the median, rolled and collided with a grey Kia Soul that had been travelling west on Hwy. 101.

The driver, and sole occupant, of the Mazda CX-5, an 82-year-old Garlands Crossing man, suffered minor injuries and was treated by paramedics and released at the scene.

The driver of the Kia Soul, a 52-year-old Dartmouth man, suffered serious injuries and was transported to a hospital in Kentville by ambulance.

The passenger of the Kia Soul, an 84-year-old Dartmouth woman, suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to a hospital in Kentville by ambulance, and was later airlifted by Lifeflight to a hospital in Halifax.

A collision reconstructionist attended the scene and the investigation is ongoing.

Hwy. 101 was closed for several hours but has since reopened.
