UPDATE: A thorough investigation, including a search of the area, was conducted. No persons in distress were located and no missing persons reports have been received.
Happy Valley-Goose Bay RCMP is investigating a report of a flare going off in a wooded area earlier this evening in the vicinity of Memorial Bridge on Route 510, intersecting at Route 500. Police engaged Ground Search and Rescue, whose members are currently searching the wooded area near the bridge.
Police ask anyone with information on who may have set off the flare or information on travellers who are overdue from an excursion in that area to please contact Happy Valley-Goose Bay RCMP at 709-896-3383.
