On Jan. 10, 2023, at approximately 10:15 p.m., Enoch RCMP and Enoch Fire responded to two reports of arson at rural residences on Enoch Cree Nation. It was reported that two suspects threw Molotov cocktails at the residences.
The first residence was damaged, but the sole occupant was able to extinguish the flames. The occupants of the second residence were able to escape unharmed, but the home was destroyed.
The suspects were described as two males, both wearing dark clothing and masks. One of the suspects was identified as 34-year-old individual, a resident of Enoch Cree Nation. When the suspects attempted to flee the area, their vehicle became stuck in the ditch nearby. This vehicle has been seized by police.
A witness approached the vehicle believing that the occupants needed assistance. The suspects exited the vehicle and allegedly pointed a firearm toward them and rounds were discharged. The suspects then fled the area on foot and were observed being let into a nearby residence.
The area was contained with the assistance of Enoch RCMP, Parkland RCMP, Police Dog Services (PDS), and the Emergency Response Team (ERT). A warrant was obtained to enter the residence, and the 34-year-old individual was located inside. He was arrested and held for a judicial interim release hearing.
Three other males were also located in the home. The second suspect has not yet been identified. The investigation is ongoing, and search warrants are being conducted on the residence and recovered vehicle.
The 34-year-old individual remains in custody. His next appearance in court is set for Jan. 18, 2023. He is charged with 18 offences, including arson, firearms offences, and breach of his conditions.
Parkland RCMP are now seeking the public's assistance. It is believed that motorists on Highway 60 shortly after 10 p.m. may have observed the suspects as they crossed the highway. Enoch RCMP investigate arson incident involving firearm
On Jan. 10, 2023, at approximately 10:15 p.m., Enoch RCMP and Enoch Fire responded to reports of two arsons involving Molotov cocktails. Through preliminary investigation, it was learned that two suspects were involved, and were allegedly armed with a firearm that had been discharged. Parkland RCMP, Parkland General Investigative Section (GIS), Police Dog Services (PDS) and Emergency Response Team (ERT) all responded to assist in containing the area.
One of the two suspects was subsequently located and taken into custody. The second suspect is still outstanding, and investigation is ongoing. At this time, there is not believed to be any risk to the general public.
