Boyle RCMP arrest male following assault and firearms investigation

On Jan. 18, 2023, at approximately 4 p.m., Boyle RCMP responded to a call for a man who was armed and barricaded in a residence on Buffalo Lake Metis Settlement, following an assault at that property.

Upon arrival to the property, investigators learned the male had fled prior to the police attending the residence, and was not located.

On Jan. 19, 2023, at approximately 2 p.m., Boyle RCMP learned that the male had returned to the property. The location was immediately contained by police. Members of the Boyle RCMP, RCMP Emergency Response Team (ERT), RCMP Police Dog Services (PDS), and RCMP Air Services attended the location to provide assistance. At approximately 8 p.m., RCMP ERT members were able to enter the residence and arrest the male.

A 31-year-old individual, a resident of Kikino Metis Settlement, Alta., was arrested on multiple outstanding warrants from several jurisdictions for charges that included:

• Forcible confinement

• Uttering Threats x3

• Assault x2

• Mischief x2

In addition to his outstanding warrants, the 31-year-old individual was also charged with the following:

• Assault

• Assault with a weapon or causing bodily harm x3

• Fail to comply with a release order x2

• Possession of a firearm contrary to prohibition order

• Careless use of a firearm

• Unauthorized possession of a firearm

The 31-year-old individual was remanded into custody following a judicial interim release hearing and is scheduled to appear at Boyle provincial court on Jan. 24, 2023.

Boyle RCMP would like to thank the public for their patience and cooperation during this operation, which included a significant police presence and traffic delays on Highway 855 near Buffalo Lake Metis Settlement.

As these matters are now before the courts, no further updates will be provided.
