Anonymous report of dangerous driver near Tilton leads to arrest, charges and tickets

In response to an anonymous report of a dangerous driver on Route 70 near Tilton received on January 14, 2023, Bay Roberts RCMP arrested 21-year-old Austin Nichols of Victoria for breaching conditions of a court release order.

At approximately 1:30 a.m., police received and responded to the report. The vehicle was located a short time later on Columbus Drive in Carbonear and a traffic stop was conducted. Evidence of dangerous driving was not observed at that time. Nichols, who was driving without a valid licence, was arrested at the traffic stop for failing to abide by conditions of his court release order, including failing to adhere by a curfew. The vehicle was neither registered nor insured and was seized and impounded.

Nichols, who attended court over the weekend, was remanded into custody and will attend court today. He is charged with three counts of failing to comply with conditions of a release order. In addition, he was ticketed under the Highway Traffic Act for a number of violations.
