A 29-year-old man from Saint-Simon, N.B., has been charged with second degree murder in connection with the death of a man in the community.
On December 29, 2022, at approximately 2:45 a.m., members of the Caraquet RCMP detachment responded to a call for a wellbeing check at a residence in Saint-Simon. When police arrived, they located a 60-year-old man deceased outside of the home. Police are investigating the man's death as a homicide.
The same morning, a 29-year-old man was arrested in connection with the investigation after he fled from police.
On January 3, 2023, the following charges were laid against Philippe Hébert in Bathurst Provincial Court:
- Second degree murder
- Resisting arrest
- Dangerous driving
- Flight from police
- Interfering with human remains
He was remanded into custody and is scheduled to return to court at a later date.
The investigation is ongoing.
